PARKORAN, ANKARA, TURKEY
Parkoran is a benchmark residential development hosting over 5,000 residents within the 12-hectare site. Consisting of 17 tower blocks, with a percentage of live-work units and small scale commercial, all of which overlook pine forest and views of the nearby Golbasi Lakes.
The landscape, built partially on a car park podium, provides a central interactive community space, with a self-sustaining wetland as its centrepiece. The wetland will capture and treat the grey water from the tower blocks through a series of treatment ponds, culminating in a large boating lake at the base of the site.
The wetland system will integrate water technology with local ecology to create a self-sustaining system that can re-use water for irrigation and water features, an important aspect given the dry climate and the scarcity of water in the area.
Other features within the communal spaces include a market place, small soccer field, outdoor café, an amphitheatre and children's playgrounds, with outdoor entertaining areas and shade structures throughout the development.
